Coleus Coleus is a sensational medicinal crop with maximum potential as its pharmacopical properties have been discovered only recently. The tuberous roots are rich in source of forskohlin, which is being developed as a drug for hypertension, obesity, glaucoma, asthma, congestive heart failure and certain types of cancers. This product, ?forskohlin? was named as the ?product of the year? by Nutracon an Industry association in the USA for the year 2001. Coleus is found distributed all over the tropical and subtropical regions. It is a perennial plant 0.5 m tall with thick tubers along with bluish lavender flowers. The crop matures in 5 ? months thus it is possible to grow two crops per year in irrigated conditions.
